Intrauterine Insemination

You might’ve heard of IUI in passing. Maybe it came up in a late-night search, maybe someone mentioned it as a next step. But what is it, really? And how do you know if it’s right for you?

At its core, IUI is a simple procedure,  but the emotions that lead up to it rarely are. That’s why at Dr Sidapara Sankalp Hospital we approach it with calm, clarity, and care. It’s not a quick fix, and it’s certainly not the final option on the list. It’s a step,  sometimes the one that helps everything else come together.

What IUI Actually Is

Intrauterine insemination means placing sperm directly into the uterus during the most fertile window of your cycle. The goal is to bring the healthiest sperm closer to the egg, skipping over a few natural barriers that may be causing delays.

It sounds clinical, but the process itself is quite gentle. No cuts, no anaesthesia, no long recovery. Most people walk in, have the procedure, and leave within an hour,  with minimal discomfort.

When It Makes Sense

We don’t suggest IUI to everyone. Sometimes, people come in thinking it’s the only option left  and we find out they don’t need it at all.

However, in certain cases, it can offer the right kind of support –

  • If you’ve been trying for a while and everything looks “normal” on paper
  • When sperm count or motility is a little below average
  • When cervical mucus makes it harder for sperm to reach the egg
  • When timing intercourse has been a challenge, emotionally or logistically
  • In cases involving donor sperm
  • As a next step after ovulation induction has been tried

It’s not always about problems, sometimes it’s just about support.

What the Process Feels Like

We begin by monitoring your ovulation,  sometimes with medication, sometimes naturally, depending on what your body needs. Once the timing is right, the sperm sample, from your partner or a donor, is processed in our lab. This step helps isolate the strongest, healthiest sperm.

The actual procedure is simple and quick. Using a soft, slender tube, the sperm is gently placed inside the uterus. It usually takes just a few minutes. Some women feel mild cramping, but many don’t feel much at all. After a short rest, you can go about the rest of your day as usual.

What Happens After

There’s no strict “post-IUI routine.” We usually suggest taking it easy the rest of the day, but there’s no medical need for bed rest. Over the next two weeks, we wait  and we stay in touch.

If pregnancy doesn’t happen on the first try, that’s okay. In many cases, it takes two or three cycles. We’ll look at how your body responded, make adjustments if needed, and keep you fully involved in every step.

Why This Feels Different at Dr Sidapara Sankalp Hospital

We know that even a “simple” procedure can feel overwhelming if the space around it isn’t supportive. That’s why we do more than just follow steps.

Here, you’ll never be handed a treatment plan without a conversation. You won’t be rushed in or out. We explain what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what your options are if things shift. And if you’re unsure,  we wait.

There’s no pressure to commit before you’re ready.

You don’t have to know if IUI is your next move. You just need to feel safe asking. If you’ve been stuck in the waiting stage or feel like your timing just hasn’t been lining up, this might be a gentle next step. Let’s talk it over, not in a rush, not with a script, but honestly. We’re here when you’re ready.
