Mid-Trimester Anomaly Scan

What Is a Mid-Trimester Anomaly Scan?

Around the halfway point of your pregnancy, usually between 18 and 22 weeks, comes a scan that takes a much closer look at your baby’s development. This is called the anomaly scan (sometimes called the Level 2 scan), and it’s one of the most detailed checks during your pregnancy.

This scan isn’t just about growth or size, it carefully examines your baby’s organs, limbs, spine, face, heart, and brain. We also check the placenta, amniotic fluid, and how your baby is positioned. It’s our way of making sure everything is progressing as it should.

At Dr. Sidapara’s Sankalp Hospital, we approach this scan not as a routine, but as a responsibility, to notice what matters and to help you understand what we see.

What We Check For

During the scan, we do a head-to-toe review of your baby’s body and surroundings, including:

  • Head and brain structure
  • Face and profile, including lips (to check for cleft lip)
  • Spine and limbs
  • Stomach, kidneys, and bladder
  • Heart chambers and major blood vessels
  • Placenta position and function
  • Amniotic fluid levels
  • Umbilical cord and its insertion point

This scan is detailed, but it’s also done gently and calmly. It usually takes a little longer than earlier scans, around 30 to 45 minutes and we make sure you’re comfortable the whole time.

Our Approach at Dr Sidapara Sankalp Hospital

We treat this appointment with care, not just precision.
You’re not just coming in for a scan, you’re checking in with your baby at a major milestone. That’s something we take seriously.

We explain things as we go. We check thoroughly. And if something needs a closer look, we let you know what it means, without panic, without confusion.

You can bring your partner or a support person. Many parents find this scan incredibly reassuring, even emotional, seeing the fine details of their baby on screen for the first time.

You’ll leave with more than a report. You’ll leave with clarity.

Why the Anomaly Scan Matters

  • It can detect structural issues that may need follow-up or planning
  • Helps your doctor prepare for delivery or care after birth, if needed
  • Offers peace of mind when everything appears healthy
  • Gives you a deeper understanding of your baby’s development
  • Checks the placenta and fluid levels for overall pregnancy health

Many babies show up perfectly healthy and that’s the best outcome of all. But if anything needs attention, finding it now gives you time and support to plan the next steps.

Why Choose us for This Scan

  • Specialists in detailed prenatal imaging
  • Calm, private setting with experienced female staff
